I’ve Been Scammed!

I’ve been scammed!

I ordered a garment/duffle bag online from a company that posted a video ad on FB. This bag seemed perfect — it had a place for everything: a suit, clothes, even a compartment for shoes. It also featured wheels and a hideaway handle for easy transport.

And it was on sale for only $60! (Note to self: if it seems too good to be true …)

Three weeks later, the bag still hadn’t arrived. When I tried to reach out via the email provided for customer service, I discovered it was invalid. (Note to self: next time, test the email before ordering!)

I went to the bank yesterday to see what could be done to stop payment, even though I had used a debit card, and to get a new card. To my surprise, the bank could “contest” the payment, with the potential of having my money returned.

The teller and I had a conversation about fraud. IT’S RAMPANT! She mentioned seeing many scams involving gift cards and offers for cryptocurrencies, often with recurring deductions from people’s bank accounts.

On the way out, I overheard an older couple talking to another teller. Their computer had been hacked!

It is often said that there are no guarantees in life … but there ARE oversights and insurance.

One of my clients provides securities fraud monitoring for institutional pension funds, an upfront free service that is proving to be more and more valuable and necessary every day.

What’s the status of your pension … and your pension fund?

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Perhaps I can help ensure your future, so you don’t end up saying, “I’ve been scammed,” after your pension fund loses value due to illegal activities like fraud, insider trading, theft, or misstatements of earnings.

Please reach out if you’d like to have a conversation.
