Have you ever seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul in a funeral procession? Most likely not.
This image starkly reminds us: You can’t take it with you. It puts everything into perspective—our work, our lives, our relationships, and our goals and values while we are still “on this side of the dirt.”
So, why are you in business? Is it merely to accumulate as much wealth as possible? Does this ambition dominate your thoughts, consuming every waking moment and even sacrificing time with your family and friends? Is that the legacy you aim to leave behind?
We all strive to earn money through our businesses. But it’s what we do with that money while on this planet that defines who we are and the legacy we leave. Do we support those in our communities who are less fortunate? Assist family members in financial distress or support their educational aspirations?
Having altruistic goals provides the “why” behind our existence. It fuels our motivation to get up every day, work hard, and grow our businesses—not just for financial gain, but for how we can use that wealth to improve the world around us.
What is your “why”?
